Huntington Beach Pitcher Jared Grindlinger Changes Class to Prepare for 2026 Draft
Rising Baseball Star Jared Grindlinger Reclassifies for 2026 Draft
Jared Grindlinger, a highly regarded left-handed pitcher and one of the leading prospects in high school baseball, has announced his reclassification to graduate as part of this year’s class. This decision makes him eligible for the 2026 amateur draft, as confirmed by his coach at Huntington Beach, Benji Medure, on Thursday.
At just 16 years old, Grindlinger has already showcased impressive skills, consistently throwing between 93 and 95 mph. His family connections in sports remain notable, as his brother, Trent, is a freshman at Tennessee, posing a potential opportunity for the two to play together in the near future. Although currently uncommitted, Grindlinger’s move to graduate this spring will elevate his profile among professional scouts.
Coach Medure remarked on the immediate impact of Grindlinger’s decision, stating he received numerous inquiries from scouts shortly after the news broke. Medure emphasized, “He understands the pressure about what’s about to happen,” highlighting the heightened expectations that will accompany Grindlinger’s rising status.
In his season debut on Wednesday against Loyola, Grindlinger struck out four batters, allowing three runs and five hits over three innings, marking a strong start to the season.
Grindlinger began the process of early graduation last fall, taking online classes to facilitate this significant step in his career.
