Hulu Greenlights New Comedy Pilot Featuring Reality Star ‘Lex’ from Sean Clements and Paul Simms
Hulu has officially announced a pilot order for Lex, a new comedy from Sean Clements, known for his work on Severance, and Paul Simms, recognized for What We Do In The Shadows. The project is being produced in collaboration with 20th Television.
Lex centers around a disgraced former reality star who inadvertently captures a murder on a $20 Cameo video. As he becomes embroiled in a global conspiracy, he finds himself fleeing from dangerous individuals intent on silencing him. Drawing on his experience navigating the tumultuous world of reality TV, Lex must fight for his life, expose the truth, and ultimately find a way back into the spotlight.
Clements and Simms will serve as executive producers for the show, under the banner of 20th Television.
This announcement marks the second pilot Hulu has revealed on the same day, also confirming the drama pilot Durango, written by Eliza Clark, in partnership with 20th Television and Media Res. These projects join the previously announced Foster Dade, a drama pilot developed by Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran. Hulu’s decision to announce multiple pilots suggests a strategic shift from the traditional pilot season approach.
Clements is currently a co-executive producer for the third season of Apple’s Severance. He has penned the screenplay for the upcoming feature The Dink, produced by Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films. His extensive portfolio also includes executive producing Unstable for Netflix and *Kevin Can F*k Himself for AMC, among other projects. Clements is represented by UTA and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis LLP.
Simms has an impressive writing background, having contributed to beloved shows such as The Larry Sanders Show, Flight of the Conchords, Girls, and Newsradio, which he co-created. He has executive produced series including FX’s What We Do In The Shadows and Atlanta. In 2023, he was honored with the WGA East’s Herb Sargent Award for Comedy Excellence. Simms is represented by CAA and Ziffren Brittenham LLP.
