Hulu Decides Not to Move Forward with ‘Don’t Get High’ Comedy Pilot
Hulu Cancels Comedy Pilot Don’t Get High
Hulu has decided not to move forward with its comedy pilot Don’t Get High, featuring Tony Hale, produced by Megan Ganz and 20th Television.
The cancellation comes as part of Hulu’s broader strategy to enhance its youth-oriented programming, a segment it has been keen to expand over the past year and a half. Recently, the streaming service also opted not to proceed with the Buffy reboot pilot New Sunnydale, while the fate of another YA drama pilot, Foster Dade, remains uncertain. In contrast, the YA comedy-mystery pilot Phony, which stars Connie Britton and Sam Nivola, was picked up for a series last year.
In Don’t Get High, the storyline revolves around an "alpha dork" and her group of misfit friends who initiate an anti-drug campaign at their high school, a venture that does not yield successful results.
The regular cast included Hale alongside Ashley Brooke, Olivia Gill, Oscar Williams, Erin Morton, and Daniel Rosales.
Ganz held multiple roles on the project, serving as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with Adam Fishbach and Mara Herron also listed as executive producers. The studio behind the production was 20th Television.
Hulu’s recent pilot orders include a couple-on-the-run drama titled Durango and a reality TV/murder conspiracy comedy called Lex. Additionally, the platform has drama pilots in development, including Southern Bastards, based on the graphic novel, and a reboot of The X-Files, both produced in collaboration with Onyx.
Clockwise Top L-R: Tony Hale, Ashley Brooke, Olivia Gill, Oscar Williams, Erin Morton and Daniel Rosales
