Hugo Lloris Achieves Fifth Consecutive Shutout in LAFC’s Match Against Austin FC
AUSTIN, Texas — Hugo Lloris recorded two saves for LAFC in a historic fifth consecutive shutout to open the season, while Brad Stuver blocked the only shot he faced for Austin FC in a goalless draw on Saturday night.
Lloris and LAFC (4-0-1) have now achieved four shutout victories to start the season, joining an elite group of just four teams in league history to reach this milestone. His scoreless run of 450 minutes is the longest recorded in league history for a season’s beginning.
The match almost marked Lloris’s first concession in the 63rd minute when Myrto Uzuni scored from a corner kick taken by Facundo Torres. However, a video review revealed a foul by Ilie Sánchez, leading to the disallowance of the goal and a yellow card for Uzuni.
Neither goalkeeper was tested in a scoreless first half. Austin FC (1-2-2) had a successful sweep over LAFC last year in the regular season but could not overcome them in the playoffs. Both of Austin’s losses this season have occurred on the road.
LAFC advanced to the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup after eliminating Alajuelense on Tuesday, currently holding a 7-0-2 record across all competitions.
The club began the day tied with the Vancouver Whitecaps for first place in the highly competitive Western Conference.
Next, LAFC will face Orlando City at BMO Stadium on April 4.
