Hugh Jackman Shows a New Look with Long Gray Hair and Beard in The Death of Robin Hood Trailer
NEED TO KNOW
- Hugh Jackman portrays a gritty version of Robin Hood in the first trailer for The Death of Robin Hood.
- Written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, the film also features Bill Skarsgård and Jodie Comer.
- Jackman’s character is described as a “murderous outlaw who did a lot of terrible things,” exploring his conflicting feelings about his own legendary status, according to Sarnoski.
Hugh Jackman is nearly unrecognizable in his latest role as the titular character in The Death of Robin Hood.
The 57-year-old actor has undergone a striking transformation, hiding most of his face beneath a voluminous gray beard and long silver hair in the first trailer for the forthcoming A24 film.
Under Sarnoski’s direction, Robin Hood is depicted in a markedly different light compared to modern interpretations of the legendary figure. Jackman expressed his admiration for the film during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, highlighting how authentic the character feels.
“What I love so much about Mike’s vision of Robin Hood is that the script delivered power, and it examines how power can be used for good or bad,” Jackman stated. “Robin Hood is a real man in our story, with all the scars, the pain, the regret, and, yes, the love.”
Jackman continued, “Mike’s story has weight to it. For me, it’s beautiful and human.”

Alongside Jackman, The Death of Robin Hood features Bill Skarsgård and Jodie Comer. Skarsgård plays a unique version of Little John, while details about Comer’s character remain under wraps, although Sarnoski noted that she is not Maid Marian.
According to the director, Comer’s character will introduce Jackman’s Robin Hood “to another side of life,” enriching the emotional complexity of the narrative.
While Sarnoski did not disclose how much of Jackman’s gray hair and beard are prosthetics versus the actor’s own hair, he did indicate that audiences can expect to see Jackman’s musclebound physique.
In teasing the film’s plot, Sarnoski remarked, “Robin Hood was this murderous outlaw who did a lot of terrible things and was kind of monstrous. But he’s lived long enough to see this folklore get created about him. He’s figuring out how he feels about that, about being portrayed as a hero when he knows what he really was.”
Earlier this year, Jackman shared behind-the-scenes glimpses from the Irish set of the film, which were met with a farewell to his mustache that was shaved, possibly for the role.

The Death of Robin Hood is set to hit theaters in 2026.
