Hudson Williams’ Makeup Artist Talks About the Risks of Met Gala Glamour
Hudson Williams made a memorable impression on the Met Gala 2026 red carpet with a striking fashion choice.
For the occasion, Williams donned a pale blue bolero jacket and matching pants, featuring black matador-style trim, from Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Balenciaga collection. The design drew inspiration from Cristóbal Balenciaga’s 1947 collection.
Opting for a shirtless look, the star of “Heated Rivalry” accessorized with a diamond necklace by Bulgari. However, it was his bold, mismatched eyeshadow that sparked notable conversations among attendees and fans alike.
Williams’ attire was complemented by a dynamic makeup look styled by Aika Flores, which was inspired by the film Black Swan.
Comments on social media concerning the make-up ranged from praise to criticism. One user remarked, “cool concept, executed poorly,” whereas another quipped, “did you do his makeup in the dark?”
In response to the growing criticism, Flores took to Threads to share her thoughts: “Met Gala was chaos & a career highlight,” emphasizing the importance of embracing both positive and negative feedback as part of her artistic journey. She expressed, “As an artist, I receive all feedback, positive & negative, with grace & gratitude.”
Flores reiterated her belief in taking artistic risks, stating: “Taking a risk always comes at a cost, & I stand by that. There’s always room to evolve, no matter where I am in my career.” She concluded her statement underlining the value of kindness: “While everyone is entitled to an opinion, it’s important to remember there’s a human with feelings behind the work.”
The theme of Williams’ look has also drawn the attention of notable figures in the industry, including makeup artist Doniella Davy, who defended Flores, stating, “I love this look. It’s expressive, thought-provoking, playful, has a story AND goes against the grain of what pop culture tends to value in makeup.”
Flores elaborated on her artistic inspiration, describing it as “A study in transformation: where innocence fractures and grace darkens, the white swan shedding softness to emerge as something sharper, untouchable, and entirely reborn.”
