- Producers of the 2026 Golden Globes described the internal response from CBS executives to Nikki Glaser’s remarks about the network during her opening monologue.
- During the ceremony on January 11, Glaser referred to CBS News as “America’s newest place to see BS news.”
- The production team also indicated that Glaser’s return as host for a third consecutive year is being considered.
Nikki Glaser’s second year hosting the Golden Globe Awards generated positive reactions.
The comedian, 41, returned to the annual ceremony on Sunday, January 11, where she opened the show with a monologue that humorously critiqued Hollywood celebrities and current events. Among her jests, Glaser took a shot at recent controversial editorial changes at CBS News, the network airing the Globes.
“And the award for most editing goes to CBS News,” she quipped, eliciting laughter and applause from the audience. “Yes, CBS News, America’s newest place to see BS news. We needed another.”
Producers Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss addressed the reactions during an interview with Variety, revealing that CBS executives were aware that Glaser would include the joke in her speech beforehand.

“I think when you start off by doing a self-deprecating joke about your own plastic surgery, you set the tone of, ‘I’m not here to really harm people,’” Kirshner remarked. “I was sitting next to the CBS executive during rehearsal. Glenn had heard that joke in clubs throughout the week, and we hadn’t heard it all week until rehearsal day.”
He added, “She did it, I was sitting with the CBS exec, and I looked over at her, and she texted a few people and said, ‘Yeah, it’s okay. It’s fine.’”
Weiss commented, “Everything in the monologue, why she nails this so well is, we’re poking fun at everything in the industry, including ourselves. It’s just been fun.”
Glaser’s comments came amidst ongoing changes at CBS. On January 7, Tony Dokoupil began hosting CBS Evening News, becoming the sixth anchor of the broadcast in the past ten years. Just weeks earlier, the network abruptly pulled a planned 60 Minutes segment centered on Venezuelan men deported by the Trump administration to a notorious prison in El Salvador.
This follows Skydance’s $8 billion acquisition of Paramount, the parent company of CBS. The merger occurred after CBS News settled a lawsuit with President Donald Trump last summer.
When asked if Glaser would return to host the 2027 Golden Globes, Weiss stated, “We all have been focused on this year. No conversation about it. But if you ask me, what’s in my heart, I certainly hope so.”

In addition to her commentary on CBS, Glaser also humorously targeted several celebrity attendees, including Leonardo DiCaprio. She jested that he was nominated for “one man bun after another” instead of his film One Battle After Another, while also teasing him about his age difference with his girlfriend, Italian model Vittoria Ceretti, 27.
“You’ve worked with every great director, you’ve won three Golden Globes and an Oscar,” Glaser remarked. “The most impressive thing is that you were able to accomplish that all before your girlfriend turned 30.”
Later in her monologue, Glaser took a shot at the Trump administration regarding its handling of the Epstein files, saying, “I cannot believe the amount of star power we have in this room tonight. It’s insane… there are so many A-listers, and by A-list I do mean a list that has been heavily redacted. And the Golden Globe for Best Editing goes to the Justice Department. Yes. Congratulations.”
