Hollywood’s Magic Castle to Reopen This Friday After Fire Damage
Fire at Magic Castle Leaves No Injuries, Venue Set to Reopen
A fire broke out at the renowned Magic Castle in Hollywood on Tuesday evening, causing damage but resulting in no injuries. The incident, which occurred around 5:30 p.m., was contained within 40 minutes by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire primarily affected the attic and top-floor offices of the venue, located at 7001 W. Franklin Ave. Despite the damage, the Magic Castle plans to reopen its doors this Friday for its community of magic enthusiasts.
Randy Pitchford, the building’s owner, took to social media to reassure patrons about the safety of guest areas. "Confirmed that all guest and member areas are safe, secure and relatively undamaged," Pitchford stated. He noted that while the attic and top-floor offices were severely affected, important historical artifacts—including rare artwork and the William Larsen Sr. Library of Magical Arts—remained unharmed. He expressed optimism about the venue’s recovery, stating that improvements were already planned.
Event manager Ben Roman also provided an encouraging update on Facebook, announcing the venue’s reopening after extensive cleaning and inspection. “We’re back in business, baby! Thank you for all the prayers and words of encouragement from so many people. The magic of community!” he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, with preliminary indications suggesting that ongoing roof work may have played a role. Simone Turkington, president of the Academy of Magical Arts, noted that firefighters arrived before sprinkler systems activated, preventing extensive water damage throughout the venue. She highlighted the timely renovations that had improved safety measures, suggesting that the situation could have been much worse had the fire occurred prior to those upgrades.
Founded in 1909, the Magic Castle is exclusively accessible to members of the Academy of Magical Arts and their guests.
