Hlynur Pálmason’s ‘Joan Of Arc’ Now Available in North America and the UK
Icelandic Film ‘Joan of Arc’ Secures Distribution in Key Markets After San Sebastian Premiere
Icelandic director Hlynur Pálmason’s latest film, Joan of Arc, has been acquired for multiple key territories, including North America and the UK, following its premiere at the San Sebastián International Film Festival earlier this year. The 62-minute film has garnered attention for its unique storytelling and artistic vision.
Warsaw-based sales agency New Europe Film Sales announced successful deals for Joan of Arc across several regions. The film will be distributed in Spain by Elastica, in Italy by Movies Inspired, in North America by Janus, in the UK by Curzon, and in Poland by New Horizons. The agency also revealed the film’s final poster art.
Joan of Arc follows the journey of three siblings as they repeatedly create and then destroy a knight-like figure throughout the seasons, a narrative enriched by its visually compelling execution.
This project was developed alongside Pálmason’s family drama The Love That Remains, which has been selected as Iceland’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. In a statement released at the San Sebastián premiere, Pálmason explained the interconnections between the two films, noting that they both originate from the same conceptual world and feature overlapping themes and characters.
“There are three narrative threads in The Love that Remains, and one of these threads is about the children building this figure in the landscape,” Pálmason remarked. “This is the main thread of Joan of Arc, but you only see a glimpse of it in The Love that Remains… Joan of Arc explores some of the same themes, but it also goes into a completely different direction and goes deep.”
He also expressed the potential for audiences to find value in viewing Joan of Arc alongside The Love That Remains, emphasizing that while the former stands independently as a powerful work, its relationship with the latter enhances its depth.
All distributors announced for Joan of Arc also hold rights to The Love That Remains. The film has been produced by Reykjavik-based Still Vivid and Copenhagen-based Snowglobe in collaboration with Paris-based Maneki Films, receiving support from the Icelandic Film Centre, Det Danske Filminstitut, CNC, and SASS.
