Hilda Solis Announces Her Candidacy for U.S. Congress
Hilda Solis Launches Congressional Campaign Ahead of June Primary
Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis has officially announced her candidacy for Congress in the newly drawn 38th Congressional District. This move marks her bid to return to Washington ahead of the June primary.
Solis, who has served as the supervisor for LA County’s First District for over ten years, will be campaigning in an area that includes Baldwin Park, Bell, Cudahy, Commerce, Diamond Bar, and El Monte.
With an extensive background in politics, Solis is familiar with the Capitol, having completed eight terms as a member of Congress and served as the U.S. Secretary of Labor during President Barack Obama’s administration. “I am running to ensure government works for the people, not the powerful, and to deliver results that improve the lives of every family in this district," Solis stated.
The 38th District seat will soon be vacant, as current Representative Linda Sanchez is pursuing a position in the 41st Congressional District. Under the revised congressional map, the 41st District will shift to include significant Democratic areas such as Whittier, Bellflower, and Downey.
Solis will face competition in the primary from candidates including Pico Rivera Councilmember Monica Sanchez and Whittier City Councilmember Erik Lutz.
