Hiker Injured While Searching for Missing Dog on Mt. Wilson Trail
A hiking incident on the Mt. Wilson Trail in Sierra Madre on Saturday afternoon left one man injured as he attempted to rescue his dog, which had strayed off the path.
According to authorities, the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue team, along with the Sierra Madre Fire Department, responded to the scene following a report of an injured hiker around 2:45 p.m.
Officials stated that the man suffered a leg injury while trying to retrieve his dog, prompting a rescue operation that lasted nearly four hours. The hiker was eventually brought safely off the trail and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The hiker’s dog, a black miniature Doberman Pinscher named Mitsy, remains unaccounted for. Mitsy, described as an older dog wearing an orange vest, has sparked concern among local officials.
Authorities are encouraging anyone hiking the Mt. Wilson Trail over the weekend to keep an eye out for Mitsy and to contact the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue if they spot her.
