Paris Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2025 recently concluded, following its earlier stops in London and Milan. This season spotlighted notable changes in the fashion landscape, including designer debuts from Haider Ackermann at Tom Ford and Sarah Burton at Givenchy. The event was also marked by Chanel’s presentation of its final collection designed by Virginie Viard before Matthieu Blazy steps in as the new creative director.
The presentations highlighted a strong emphasis on tailoring, a trend consistent across the major fashion capitals. Power suits, cinched-waist blazers, and stylish separates dominated the runway. In contrast, the playful and nostalgic “granny chic” aesthetic emerged prominently, featuring Victorian blouses, retro nighties, and an array of bold designs. Trends from the 2010s, such as bubble skirts and skirts-over-pants, continued their resurgence, as noted in previous seasons.
Statement Belts
The statement belt made a triumphant return, appearing in various forms such as corset-like pieces at Dries Van Noten and oversized styles at Chloé and Off-White. Designers like Issey Miyake and Schiaparelli showcased multiple-belt looks that set the stage for a trend that is expected to flourish in the coming months.
Polka Dots
Retro polka dots are set to reclaim their place in fashion this fall. Varied interpretations emerged, including slouchy boots at Isabel Marant and mismatched prints at Rokh, reflecting a fresh take on this classic pattern.
Drop Waist
Continuing last season’s momentum, bubble skirts graced the runway alongside a new contender: the drop-waist silhouette. Casual drop-waist polo minis were showcased by Kiko Kostadinov, while elegant drop-waist gowns were featured by designers such as Junya Watanabe and Saint Laurent.
Rosettes
Floral embellishments made a significant impact, particularly 3-D rosettes that added a feminine touch to collections at Casablanca and Ganni. Options ranged from intricate appliqués to simpler floral designs, catering to diverse tastes.
The Color Yellow
Yellow made a vibrant comeback, seen in collections from both Burton and Ackermann. The shade appeared across a variety of styles, from casual athleisure to formal dresses, emphasizing its versatility for the season.
Snake Print
Snake print emerged as a leading pattern, with designers like Stella McCartney and Gabriela Hearst incorporating it into dresses and matching sets, alongside striking zebra prints that trended as well.
Victorian Blouses
Retro-inspired blouses with oversized collars and intricate cuffs saw a resurgence this season, drawing inspiration from both vintage designs and literary figures like Virginia Woolf. This trend invites a nostalgic aesthetic that resonates through various collections.
Faded Fabric
This season also embraced garments with a distressed look, as witnessed in faded leather jackets at Miu Miu and jean styles at Louis Vuitton. These items advocate for a more sustainable approach to fashion, encouraging a preference for vintage pieces.
Metal Material
Metallic fabrics made a statement on the runway with designs that appeared both futuristic and reminiscent of medieval styles. Silver outfits at Lacoste and tech-inspired gowns at Coperni contributed to this cutting-edge trend.
