Harry Styles Joins Ryan Gosling for a Surprise Moment on SNL
Ryan Gosling Hosts Saturday Night Live, Surprised by Harry Styles’ Appearance
Ryan Gosling took the stage as the host of "Saturday Night Live" on Saturday night, but it was Harry Styles—who is set to appear on the show next week—who unexpectedly stole the spotlight. Styles made a surprise entrance during Gosling’s opening monologue, prompting Gosling to question, “Is that … Harry Styles? What are you doing here, man?”
Styles, known for his Grammy-winning music career, responded, “It’s been a while, so I wanted to watch, get a feel for it.” However, Gosling, expressing a touch of jealousy, joked, “So professional, that’s so awesome,” while mistakenly referring to his upcoming film as “Project Harry Styles” instead of “Project Hail Mary.”
As the monologue continued, the camera frequently shifted its focus to Styles, diverting attention from Gosling’s narrative about Earth on the Studio 8H stage. “Could you listen less cool? It’s like your coolness is becoming an issue,” Gosling lamented.
A cameraman, donned in an “I <3 Harry” shirt, opted for a split-screen display. When Gosling asked for the split-screen to be removed, Styles ended up dominating the frame instead.
In a throwback to his “I’m Just Ken” Oscar performance, Gosling attempted a song but ultimately called off his background dancers, who were dressed as aliens. Comedian Sarah Sherman chimed in with a playful reference to Morgan Wallen’s viral “Get me to God’s country,” as she danced over to Styles.
While promoting “Project Hail Mary,” Gosling acknowledged his co-star Sandra Huller, who performs “Sign of the Times” in the sci-fi film. “Nobody wants this,” Gosling quipped, alluding to the discomfort of performing the hit in front of its songwriter.
In a light-hearted moment toward the end of the opener, cast member Mikey Day consoled Gosling with a kiss, joined by much of the cast. “Did they come because I’m, like, your favorite host of all time?” Gosling inquired, to which the resounding answer was clear: they were there for Harry.
