Glendale Police Arrest Family Band Behind Distraction Thefts
Family-Operated Theft Ring Dismantled in Glendale
GLENDALE, Calif. — Five members of a family have been arrested as a result of a Glendale Police investigation into a sophisticated distraction theft operation. The arrests occurred on February 4, following an in-depth inquiry led by local detectives and the Special Enforcement Detail.
The investigation linked the suspects—a husband, wife, and their three children—to a distraction theft that took place in January on the 1100 block of E. Broadway. Police reports indicate that the family operated as a mobile unit, frequently moving between short-term rentals to evade detection.
During the arrest, officers recovered a substantial amount of stolen property, including fake and genuine jewelry, re-encoded credit cards, counterfeit passports, stolen clothing, and over $11,000 in cash.
All five family members face charges of grand theft and various fraud-related offenses. Authorities emphasized the calculated strategy behind the group’s movements, noting that they deliberately shifted locations to minimize police scrutiny.
The suspects remain in custody as detectives investigate whether they are linked to other unsolved distraction thefts throughout Southern California. Police are in the process of analyzing the seized jewelry and fraudulent documents to identify additional victims or accomplices.
