Romantic Bonds Flourish on Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart
Since its premiere in 2014, Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart, inspired by Janette Oke’s Canadian West series, has seen numerous romantic relationships form among its cast members. Lead actress Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth Thornton, has married her co-star Ben Rosenbaum, known for his role as Mike Hickman. Similarly, fellow stars Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace also recently wed after meeting on set.
Reflecting on the on-set romances, Krakow remarked in April 2024, “There’s just always been a bit of magic in Hope Valley,” adding that the show’s charm comes from the special connections formed among its cast.
“When you put a bunch of special people together in one place, connections are bound to be made,” she noted.
Erin Krakow and Ben Rosenbaum
While their characters do not share a romantic relationship on screen, Erin Krakow and Ben Rosenbaum have become a couple in real life. Initial rumors of their romance sparked in January 2023 when Krakow announced on Instagram that they had adopted a dog together.
The couple confirmed their relationship publicly in February 2024 on Instagram, with Krakow sharing photos of their time together, including a sweet snapshot of herself kissing Rosenbaum on the cheek. Rosenbaum subsequently made their relationship official on social media by featuring a photo of Krakow as his phone’s lock screen, captioning it: “First thing I see when I wake up. Last thing I see before sleep. Happy Valentine’s Day ❤️❤️.”
In June 2025, the duo surprised fans by announcing their marriage through Instagram, with Krakow simply captioning the momentous occasion with "♾️." She wore a short-sleeved satin dress paired with a lace-trimmed veil, while Rosenbaum donned a brown double-breasted suit.
Additionally, in November 2025, they revealed that they are expecting their first child, sharing the exciting news through a joint post that featured a sonogram photograph. Krakow captioned it, "So much to be grateful for!!! 🥰"
Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace
Similar to Krakow and Rosenbaum, McGarry and Wallace found romance on the set of When Calls the Heart. Joining the series in its sixth season, McGarry portrays Nathan Grant, while Wallace played Fiona Miller for five seasons before departing ahead of season eleven. Their relationship blossomed through music collaborations.
“We always play. We’ll play music together. That’s how it all started actually. We, you know … collaborated,” McGarry shared in an interview in March 2024.
The couple went public in November 2020, with McGarry posting Polaroid photos of their time together. By December 2022, Wallace announced their engagement through a touching video that showcased her diamond ring.
At the Hearties Family Reunion fan event in September 2024, McGarry confirmed their marriage, with Wallace sharing a romantic wedding photo shortly afterward, captioning it, “Just McGarried.” In November 2025, they announced they were expecting their first child, with Wallace expressing eagerness to meet their baby.
Other Notable Couples
Several other cast members have also found love behind the scenes. Jack Wagner, known for his role as Bill Avery, married singer Michelle Wolf in May 2025 after a romantic relationship that began in January 2021. The couple held a small, intimate wedding with about forty attendees. Wagner later revealed that he and Wolf have chosen to maintain separate residences, relishing their ability to enjoy individual space.
Chris McNally is another notable cast member who shares a child with actress Julie Gonzalo. The couple met while co-starring in the Hallmark film The Sweetest Heart in 2018, discovering a deep connection that led to their family.
Pascale Hutton and Danny Dorosh have been married since June 2003, their marriage founded on a serendipitous meeting when Hutton was just 19. The couple shares two sons, with Hutton often praising her husband’s character and their family bond.
Kavan Smith, playing Leland Coulter, is married to casting director Corinne Clark. Smith recalls knowing immediately that she was the one for him, demonstrating their bond that extends beyond the spotlight.
As When Calls the Heart continues to unfold, the real-life romances among its cast add an extra layer of warmth to the beloved series.
