Gersh Welcomes Screenwriter Karen McCullah from ‘Legally Blonde’ to the Team
Renowned screenwriter McCullah has left an indelible mark on the romantic comedy genre with a portfolio that includes beloved films such as Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You, She’s the Man, The Ugly Truth, and The House Bunny.
The impact of Legally Blonde is noteworthy, as it has inspired both a Broadway musical and an upcoming series titled Elle, set to premiere this summer under Amazon MGM Studios.
Similarly, 10 Things I Hate About You is poised for transformation beyond its film origins. A Broadway musical adaptation is currently in advanced development, featuring a collaboration with Tony Award-winning producer Mike Bosner, Golden Globe-winning writer Lena Dunham, Grammy-nominated songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen, Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, and Tom Kitt, a two-time Tony Award-winning music supervisor and arranger.

Looking ahead, McCullah’s upcoming project, The Last Resort, is an independently produced romantic comedy set in the Philippines. Directed by Donald Petrie, known for How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Miss Congeniality, the film stars Daisy Ridley, recognized for her roles in The Young Woman and the Sea and the modern Star Wars trilogy, alongside Alden Ehrenreich, who appeared in Weapons and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
In addition, McCullah has adapted the best-selling book series A Murder Uncorked, which will feature Emma Roberts and Lucas Bravo in lead roles.
Another project in development at TriStar is The Honeymoon, based on McCullah’s original concept. The storyline follows a determined woman who faces unexpected heartbreak just days before her wedding. Encouraged by her best friend to proceed with the lavish honeymoon she has meticulously planned, she invites a stranger from Instagram—who shares the same name as her ex-fiancé—to accompany her, hoping for a rebound experience during the trip.
McCullah’s career continues to flourish under the management of Seth Jaret from Virtual Matter.
