George and Amal Clooney Become French Citizens After Making a Meaningful Move
George and Amal Clooney Granted French Citizenship
In a significant move, George and Amal Clooney have officially become citizens of France. The couple’s acquisition of citizenship follows their recent relocation to a $8.3 million wine estate in Brignoles, a small town in the country’s Provence region. The decision was reportedly influenced by France’s privacy laws, which George has praised in recent statements.
"I love the French culture, your language, even if I’m still bad at it after 400 days of courses," George Clooney shared in a radio interview. He highlighted a key advantage of living in France: "Here, they don’t take photos of kids. There aren’t any paparazzi hidden at the school gates. That’s number one for us."
The couple, who have eight-year-old twins Alexander and Ella, have made a conscious choice to shield their children from the public eye. George stated his commitment to protecting their privacy, explaining, "I don’t want pictures of my kids… We deal in very serious subject matters, with very serious bad guys, and we don’t want to have photos of our kids out there."
In addition to their French estate, the Clooneys boast an impressive real estate portfolio in Europe, which includes a notable property in Lake Como, Italy. This estate is renowned for hosting high-profile events, including the wedding of actors Emily Blunt and John Krasinski in 2010. They also own a historic Georgian mansion on a private island in the River Thames in England, purchased shortly after their wedding in 2014.
