Garage Fireworks Explosion in Los Angeles Injures Two, Sparks Investigation
LOS ANGELES – A dangerous explosion erupted early Saturday morning when a garage filled with fireworks ignited in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, injuring two nearby residents and prompting a large-scale emergency response.
Fire officials received reports of the incident around 5:35 a.m., leading the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) to the 2400 block of S. 9th Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found the garage engulfed in flames, with fireworks shooting into the sky.
According to LAFD reports, two neighbors, a man and a woman, sustained injuries to their arms and legs. While the woman was treated and released at the scene, the man was taken to a local hospital for further care.
As a precautionary measure, emergency crews evacuated nearby homes while hazardous materials teams assessed the area for any remaining unexploded fireworks.
This incident has raised concerns about potential arson, as police are actively searching for a suspect linked to the illegal stockpile of fireworks. Authorities have not yet released the identity or location of this individual.
The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing, with officials yet to determine the total quantity of fireworks involved or the origin of the initial ignition. The Los Angeles Police Department and arson investigators are engaged in processing the scene to ascertain whether the fire was intentionally set.
Residents will be allowed to return to their homes once the hazmat team has declared the area safe.
