Fox, Sipur & Fulwell Collaborate on Documentary Highlighting Iranian Judo Star’s Brave Journey in Sports Amid Conflict
A collaborative effort between American, Israeli, and British creatives is underway to produce a documentary spotlighting the journey of an Iranian judo star who defied government orders, risking his life to compete against an Israeli opponent.
Fox Entertainment Studios, Israel’s Sipur, and Fulwell Entertainment—the creators behind *The Kardashians*—are developing *Blood Brothers*, the latest project from Emmy-winning director Yariv Mozer, known for *We Will Dance Again*.
The documentary recounts the story of Saeid Mollaei, an athlete born in Tehran to ethnic Azerbaijani parents. In 2019, he faced severe pressure to lose intentionally in the semi-finals to evade a confrontation with Israeli world champion Sagi Muki, as competing against him risked severe punishment, including possible death under Iran’s Supreme Ayatollahs. Instead, Mollaei chose courage over compliance, fostering a bond with Muki that transcends the political turmoil of their nations.
As conflict continues in the Middle East, the documentary offers a poignant depiction of Iranian-Israeli cooperation at a critical moment, with the United States also playing a significant role in the region.

Mollaei remarked, “My birthplace, my personal story, the history of my country and the education I received all seemed to dictate a different destiny. I was expected to follow a certain path. Yet I chose to step out of line, because above all I am an athlete, a free man guided by deep human values, a man who could not accept a road imposed upon him. In judo, we say that friendship is the purest of human feelings. Beyond sporting rivalry, Sagi and I are building something that many once believed impossible and that is more important than ever now amid what is currently happening.”
Muki added, “In a time of war, our story shows that sports can bridge divides between communities and nations, and that the ultimate victory is not a medal, but the choice to embrace brotherhood and humanity.”
The documentary is being developed by Mozer and executive producer Steve Stark for Israeli network Reshet 13. Fulwell label Bitachon 365 is collaborating on *Blood Brothers*. This project marks the latest in a series of partnerships between Sipur, Mozer, and Stark, who have previously worked together on documentaries, including the Emmy-winning *October 7* and *The Devil’s Confession: The Lost Eichmann Tapes*. Recently, the studio entered a first-look deal with Mozer for documentaries and his initial scripted project.
