Four People Hospitalized After Shooting During Rosemead Street Takeover
Shooting During Street Takeover in Rosemead Leaves Four Injured
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. – Four individuals were hospitalized following a shooting during a street takeover in Rosemead early Sunday morning, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. near the intersection of Del Mar Avenue and Garvey Avenue. Cellphone footage captured at the scene shows a large crowd scattering amidst the sound of gunfire. Thankfully, all four victims are expected to survive their injuries.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the crowd dispersed, with one resident expressing alarm over the increasing violence in the area. “It’s disturbing, it’s loud, and now they’re shooting. It’s ridiculous,” said the woman, who preferred to remain anonymous. She noted that her family was awakened by the sounds of revving engines and growing commotion just before the shooting began. “I’m moving. Definitely. That’s scary,” she added, recounting her recent move from San Marino.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators are canvassing local businesses for surveillance footage and reviewing videos shared by witnesses. "Detectives are actively working leads, reviewing evidence and speaking to witnesses," said Lt. Alex Ruiz.
This shooting follows a recent violent street takeover in downtown Los Angeles, where a crowd vandalized property and an individual was stabbed. In light of that previous incident, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass had condemned the actions and called for increased law enforcement presence, stating, "If you start mayhem, you will be arrested. We have zero tolerance for breaking windows and running amok."
While Sunday’s event took place outside Los Angeles city limits, it has sparked renewed political discourse. Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt responded via X, asserting that those involved should face community service, tweeting, "When I’m mayor, every person in this video will be in an orange jumpsuit filling potholes, picking up trash and polishing Los Angeles sidewalks."
Authorities emphasize the importance of community reporting in preventing such incidents before they escalate. "Getting the community to call us out before it builds into a large crowd where we can’t control it with a few deputies," Ruiz remarked.
Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. To many residents, the rising violence has become a concerning trend. “This is very scary,” the nearby resident said. “That’s why I’m moving. I’m not staying here.”
