An abandoned restaurant in Lakewood was left in ruins following a fire that erupted late Sunday night. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene, located on the 5800 block of Lakewood Boulevard, shortly after 11 p.m.
Firefighters faced challenging conditions as heavy smoke and flames spread, prompting the incident to escalate from a second alarm to a third alarm fire. Crews managed to enter the building through the roof to combat the blaze effectively.
During the operation, one firefighter sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to a nearby medical facility. However, officials reported that the firefighter is expected to make a full recovery.
As firefighters worked to extinguish remaining hotspots, the cause of the fire remains undetermined, and an investigation is ongoing.
