Finneas has been selected to enhance the musical landscape of Netflix’s acclaimed series Beef, as the streaming service announced Thursday that the two-time Oscar winner will score the show’s second season.
This announcement arrives just over a month before the season 2 premiere on April 16, which will feature a completely new cast and storyline. In a statement, Finneas expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Spent the last 12 months in Beef land … very grateful to [creator Lee Sung Jin] for involving me, very grateful for the incredible performances from the entire cast.”
He elaborated, “I probably watched every scene 100 times while I scored the show, and I felt it every time. True fan of this show, very honored and proud to be a part of it.”
Lee thanked Finneas for his collaboration, stating, “Finneas is the brilliant mind behind most of the music that has soundtracked my personal life over the last decade, so it’s an absolute honor to collaborate with him on the new season. He has an incredible ability to make the darkest emotions sound so achingly beautiful, and I cannot wait for everyone to hear what he’s cooked up.”
Beef first debuted on Netflix in 2023, starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun. The inaugural season focused on an obsessive feud between two people stemming from a road-rage incident. This season received nine Primetime Emmy nominations and won five, including outstanding limited or anthology series and top acting awards for both Wong and Yeun.
The upcoming season will introduce new cast members including Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, and Seoyeon Jang.
Finneas, recognized for his work with sister Billie Eilish, has composed the score for the film The Fallout and released two solo albums, including 2024’s For Cryin’ Out Loud!. He and Eilish have created music for both Barbie and the James Bond film No Time to Die, both of which won the Oscar for Best Original Song, as well as Turning Red.
