Finneas O’Connell Set to Compose Music for Netflix’s ‘Beef’ Season 2 With A24
Finneas O’Connell has been announced as the composer for the second season of the Netflix and A24 anthology series Beef, which is set to premiere on April 16. The acclaimed singer-songwriter, a two-time Academy Award winner and eleven-time Grammy Award recipient, has dedicated much of the past year to working on the series.
“Spent the last 12 months in Beef land. All 8 episodes out April 16, All Original music by me. Very grateful to Sonny for involving me, very grateful for the incredible performances from the entire cast; I probably watched every scene 100 times while I scored the show, and I felt it every time. True fan of this show, very honored and proud to be a part of it,” O’Connell said.
Lee Sung Jin, creator, showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer of Beef, expressed his admiration for O’Connell’s work. “Finneas is the brilliant mind behind most of the music that has soundtracked my personal life over the last decade, so it’s an absolute honor to collaborate with him on the new season. He has an incredible ability to make the darkest emotions sound so achingly beautiful, and I cannot wait for everyone to hear what he’s cooked up.”

The upcoming season of Beef follows a Gen-Z couple, Ashley Miller (Cailee Spaeny) and Austin Davis (Charles Melton), who become entangled in the tumultuous marriage of their Millennial boss, Joshua Martín (Oscar Isaac), and his wife, Lindsay Crane-Martín (Carey Mulligan). Their relationship takes a turn when they witness a heated confrontation between the couple.
As tensions rise, both couples seek favor from the elitist club’s Korean billionaire owner, Chairwoman Park (Youn Yuh-hung), who is simultaneously navigating her own scandal involving her second husband, Doctor Kim (Song Kang-ho).
The cast also features Seoyeon Jang, William Fichtner, Mikaela Hoover, and Matthew Kim.
O’Connell’s work has garnered considerable acclaim, particularly for his collaborations with his sister Billie Eilish. He has expanded his repertoire as a composer, with original scores for projects such as HBO Max’s The Fallout and BJ Novak’s Vengeance. His credits include writing music for the animated film Turning Red and the song “What Was I Made For?” for Greta Gerwig’s feature Barbie. O’Connell also scored the Apple Original series Disclaimer directed by Alfonso Cuarón, all while managing personal projects and headlining tours.
