Finn Wolfhard Shares Excitement for a Cameo in a ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival: “He’s Such a Big Fan”
Fans of *Malcolm in the Middle* are in for a surprise with a notable cameo in the show’s revival finale, *Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair*, now available for streaming on Hulu.
In discussing the revival, creator Linwood Boomer shared insights about how Finn Wolfhard’s cameo came to be. “His agent called us and said, ‘Can Finn visit the set?’ We go, ‘Shit, yeah,’” Boomer recounted. “He loves the show, he’s such a big fan of the show, and we’re like, ‘Well, there’s a part we haven’t cast yet. Does he wanna do that? I mean, it’s a small part.’ And he said, ‘Fuck yeah, he wants to do it.’ And we were like, ‘Fuck yeah, we want you to come, that’d be awesome.’”
In this revival, Frankie Muniz returns as Malcolm, now a father grappling with his chaotic family dynamics. When his parents, Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), invite him to their anniversary party, Malcolm must confront his dysfunctional family while trying to shield his daughter, Leah (Keeley Karsten), from their unpredictable interactions.
Boomer’s wife, executive producer Tracy Katsky, praised Wolfhard’s performance, describing him as “an absolute doll” on set, where he plays the event planner hired by Lois.

“He was so great. He’s so charming. It’s so fun to watch him do comedy,” Katsky added. “He was so cute with Lois, Jane Kaczmarek. He kept forgetting to deliver his lines because he was just so overwhelmed that Lois was screaming at him, and he’d kind of go, ‘Oh wait, I have to act. OK, OK.’ It was so cute.”
In response to Wolfhard’s admiration for her character, Kaczmarek joked, “I should have a phone line.”
Cranston expressed his excitement about the collaboration. “He’s a good actor on a great show, and it was like, yeah, let’s include him,” he noted, admitting that both he and Kaczmarek were starstruck.
Kaczmarek recalled her surprise at seeing the *Stranger Things* star on set, joking, “Oh my God, that kid from *Stranger Things* is here. What’s he doing here?” Cranston echoed that sentiment, adding, “Is this an episode from *Stranger Things*?”
Wolfhard’s appearance comes after the conclusion of *Stranger Things*, which ended its five-season run on Netflix in December. He is set to appear next in *Crash Land*, which premiered recently at SXSW.
