Film Adaptation of Dr. Ronald Mallett’s Memoir ‘Time Traveler’ is in Production with Wild Nest Pictures and Jagman Productions
EXCLUSIVE: A film adaptation of Dr. Ronald Mallett’s memoir, “Time Traveler: A Scientist’s Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality,” co-written with Bruce Henderson in 2006, is currently in development. Producers Tom Brittney of Wild Nest Pictures and Josh Green of Jagman Productions are spearheading the project.
Dr. Mallett, a theoretical physicist, is renowned for his groundbreaking theories on time travel. He is among the few Black Americans who made significant strides in the field during his career. Inspired by H.G. Wells and the theories of Albert Einstein, Mallett has devoted his life to creating a time machine, motivated by the desire to reconnect with his father, who passed away when he was just 10 years old.
A description of the book outlines Mallett’s journey through Einstein’s work on space-time, his exploration of Kurt Gödel’s theories regarding time travel solutions, and his own research that spans over three decades. This research culminated in his recent findings on the implications of circulating laser light for time travel.
The film aims to be an emotionally charged drama, merging genres to tell the story of a boy’s promise and a scientist’s lifelong obsession with bending time to reconnect with his father.
Reflecting on the adaptation, Dr. Mallett remarked, “Einstein once remarked that ‘…imagination embraces the entire world.’ The dream of building a time machine to see my father again would require the imagination of H.G. Wells and the knowledge of Einstein. To me, the film from producers Tom Brittney and Josh Green will bring that dream to life and inspire future generations.”
In 2008, Spike Lee and his production company, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, acquired the rights to Mallett’s memoir with intentions for a film adaptation. However, that project never came to fruition for reasons that remain unclear.
Brittney, known for his role in PBS Masterpiece/ITV’s drama “Grantchester,” is producing the new film through his company, Wild Nest Pictures. He will also star in MGM’s upcoming crime series “The Westies.” Recently, he produced and directed the award-winning short film “Joe” and is set to direct the feature adaptation of Jon Ransom’s “The Whale Tattoo.” Brittney is represented by Gersh, Authentic Talent & Literary Management, and United Agents in the UK.
Green has a notable background in production, having recently executive produced Sam Pollard’s documentaries “I Was Born This Way” and “The League.” He is currently involved in multiple projects, including an adaptation of Reginald Lewis’s memoir, “Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun?” and the biopics on Alicia Alonso and Al McGuire. Green is represented by Untitled Entertainment.
Mallett and Henderson are represented by Judi Farkas Management and Alexander, Lawrence, Frumes & Labowitz, LLP.
