Felix Solis Joins NBC’s Pilot for ‘The Rockford Files’ as the Private Investigator’s Close Friend
Felix Solis, known for his roles in The Rookie and Ozark, has joined the cast of NBC’s pilot for The Rockford Files. He will join David Boreanaz, Michaela McManus, and Jacki Weaver, who were previously announced for the project.
This upcoming series is a contemporary reimagining of the classic show that aired from 1974 to 1980, originally starring James Garner. In this updated version, Boreanaz portrays James Rockford, a private investigator recently released on parole after serving time for a crime he did not commit. Rockford navigates his quest for legitimacy while contending with both local law enforcement and organized crime in Los Angeles.
Solis will take on the role of Nitty, Rockford’s best friend, who has transformed his life to become a successful defense attorney in South Los Angeles, remaining in the community to drive change. Weaver is cast as Rockford’s outspoken trailer park neighbor, an activist and analyst. McManus plays Kate, an East Hollywood detective entangled in a complex romantic relationship with Rockford, following his allegations of police misconduct.
While the original series used Los Angeles as its backdrop, the pilot will film in Atlanta, with additional scenes shot in Los Angeles. It remains undecided where future production would take place if the pilot is greenlit, although there is a possibility of applying for a California tax credit.
The project is helmed by writer Mike Daniels, with production being managed by Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly under Universal Television. Daniels, Timberman, and Beverly will serve as executive producers, alongside Chris Leanza as co-executive producer. Boreanaz is also involved as a producer.
Solis has built a diverse portfolio with appearances in various series, such as Netflix’s The Recruit, Apple TV’s City on Fire, and the CW’s Charmed reboot, as well as films like The Friend and Man on a Ledge.
