Patel shared four photos from the celebration on his personal Twitter account and also retweeted the content from his official FBI handle. One image featured Patel alongside Team USA players, including Jack Hughes, who scored the decisive goal during overtime. Another photo captured the jubilant moment of Coach Mike Sullivan, champagne-soaked, as players celebrated their victory in the background.
In his posts, Patel expressed admiration for the team, stating, “Unity, Sacrifice, Attitude- what it takes to be the best in the world. These men live and breathe it. Now Team USA are gold medal champions, legends standing on the shoulders of giants. Thank you for representing the greatest country on earth, in the greatest game ever created.”
Following reports on Patel’s presence at the Olympics, FBI spokesperson Ben Williamson clarified on Twitter that Patel’s trip was not personal but a planned visit that included scheduled meetings with Italian law enforcement and security officials. Williamson noted, “Director Patel is on a trip that was planned months ago. It includes: partner meetings with Italian law enforcement and security officials (they invited the Director last July) and meetings with Ambassador Fertitta.”
This appearance in Milan, however, drew criticism from some lawmakers. Senator Cory Booker voiced his concerns on social media, stating, “While Americans are facing rising costs, Trump, Kash Patel, and others are using our taxpayer dollars to fund their lavish lifestyle.”
Patel has previously faced scrutiny regarding his use of government resources, with congressional Democrats investigating his travel patterns. Concerns were raised after his visits to events such as a wrestling show in Pennsylvania and MMA matches in New York.
