Extra Gets a Fresh Season 33 Renewal from Fox Television Stations
Entertainment News Program ‘Extra’ Renewed for 33rd Season
Fox Television Stations has announced the renewal of the syndicated entertainment news program Extra for a 33rd season, effective immediately. The new season will see Dancing With the Stars judge Derek Hough return as the show’s host, joined by Senior Correspondent and Weekend Host Mona Kosar Abdi and Correspondent Terri Seymour.
The renewal, confirmed on Monday, extends the show’s run through 2027 and follows impressive ratings. Since its Season 32 premiere in September, Extra has witnessed a 20% increase in week-to-week viewership, according to Nielsen statistics reported by Telepictures and Fox Television Stations.
“Thirty-three seasons of Extra reflects an enduring vision and a commitment to constant reinvention,” said Lauren Blincoe, Senior Vice President of Current Programming for Telepictures. “Nobody does this better than the Extra team, led by our phenomenal Executive Producer Jeremy Spiegel, supported by our dedicated staff and crew, and brought to life by Derek’s singular talent, further strengthened by the on-air excellence of Mona and Terri. As we head into Season 33, we’re immensely proud of this powerhouse group and deeply grateful to our station partners and loyal viewers who’ve supported Extra for more than three decades.”
The current season has introduced the digital series Rolling with the Stars, featuring Hough interviewing Dancing With the Stars contestants while driving them around in a golf cart. This segment has gained popularity and has expanded to include talent from other Warner Bros. productions. Additionally, in 2025, Extra will extend its brand into long-form content with the launch of Investigation Discovery’s Trapped: What Is Happening to Wendy Williams?
“Amidst challenging times in syndication, the reinvention of Extra has emerged as a genuinely positive story,” remarked Frank Cicha, Executive Vice President of Programming for Fox Television Stations. “Congrats to Derek Hough, the entire team at Extra, and everyone at Telepictures.”
Currently, Extra is available in over 95% of the country, distributed by a wide range of networks including Fox Television Stations, Nexstar Media Group, Sinclair Broadcast Group, and many others.
Produced by Telepictures, a Warner Bros. Television Group company, Extra is led by Executive Producer Jeremy Spiegel and distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery Content Sales.
