Evan Mirzai Gears Up to Adapt Sheeva Moshiri’s Romantic Comedy ‘The Cupid Index’ Starring Shiva Negar, Alexander Uloom, and Sam Asghari
Iranian American Producer Secures Rights to Novel "The Cupid Index"
Iranian American producer and director Evan Mirzai has announced that his company, House of M, has acquired all rights to The Cupid Index, the debut novel from UK-Iranian author Sheeva Moshiri, published in 2021. The novel follows a 30-year-old woman navigating the challenges of her U.S. upbringing and affluent traditional Persian heritage.
Mirzai, a notable industry figure who has appeared on the Black List four times, has adapted Moshiri’s work into a feature script. He will direct, produce, and co-finance the project under the House of M banner.
The film’s principal cast features Shiva Negar (Deadly Vows, American Assassin), Alexander Uloom (House of David), and Sam Asghari (Jackpot, Lioness). The production will also showcase popular comedy influencers Jake Jonez and Caroline Kennedy.
Mirzai indicated that the rom-com will be "modestly budgeted" and is applying for California tax credits to support its financing.
According to Mirzai, The Cupid Index centers around “a Persian Princess in Beverly Hills, single and about to turn 30, who moves out on her own and into the real world in search of love after her billionaire Uncle and demanding Mother make her an ultimatum: get married in three months to a man of her choice or they’ll find a husband for her.”
Sheeva Moshiri, currently based in London and Monaco, has joined forces with House of M as she works on her sophomore novel.
“During a time of great upheaval and on the doorstep of the Persian New Year Nowruz, it is our duty as Iranian creatives to show the world a side of our people and customs that are not as well known, that we are a humorous and loving people and we are just as relatable and comically flawed as any other culture,” Mirzai stated.
Omeed Kiafar is overseeing physical production for The Cupid Index. A graduate of USC’s Marshall School of Business, Kiafar has recently assumed the role of head of physical production at House of M.
Both Moshiri and Kiafar will serve as executive producers for the project, alongside Mirzai, Uloom, Jonez, and Kennedy, all represented by House of M and Greenberg Glusker. Negar is represented by Crimson Media and The Characters Agency, while Asghari is represented by BAC Talent.
