Erik Per Sullivan Was Offered Generous Pay to Return for ‘Malcolm In The Middle’ Revival, According to Jane Kaczmarek
The eagerly awaited revival of Malcolm in the Middle, titled Life’s Still Unfair, faced a notable setback as Erik Per Sullivan, who portrayed the beloved character Dewey, declined to return despite lucrative offers. Currently immersed in his literature studies at Harvard, Sullivan opted to remain focused on his education.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Jane Kaczmarek, who reprises her role as Lois, shared insights on Sullivan’s decision. She stated, “They offered him buckets of money to come back, and he just said, ‘No thank you.’”
Sullivan will be the only original cast member replaced in the upcoming four-episode series, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark stepping in for him.

Set against the backdrop of Malcolm’s family dynamics, the revival sees him pulled back into family life as Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) invite him to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
The newly released trailer highlights the return of Frankie Muniz as Malcolm, alongside Cranston and Kaczmarek. Other familiar faces include Christopher Kennedy Masterson and Justin Berfield, portraying Malcolm’s brothers Francis and Reese, respectively, and Emy Coligado as Francis’ wife, Piama. The revival also introduces Anthony Timpano and Vaughan Murrae as the youngest siblings, Jamie and Kelly, alongside Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter Leah and Kiana Madeira as his girlfriend Tristan.
Scheduled to premiere on April 10, Life’s Still Unfair will be available on Hulu and Hulu through Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the US, with international viewers accessing it on Disney+.
