Eric Dane’s Family Shares Their Heartfelt Thoughts on Living with ALS: “My Girls Are Suffering”
Eric Dane Receives Family Support While Battling ALS
Eric Dane, best known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, has shared the challenges of his recent diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) but remains optimistic thanks to his family’s support. In a heartfelt statement to People, Dane disclosed, “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
The actor expressed relief at being able to continue his work, stating, “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Dane’s estranged wife, Rebecca Gayheart, has shared insights into how their daughters, Billie and Georgia, are coping with their father’s diagnosis. She described the situation as difficult, telling People in September 2025, “My girls are really suffering, and we’re just trying to get through it. It’s a tough time.”
Struggles of His Daughters
In the same interview, Gayheart admitted that both daughters are facing significant emotional challenges due to their father’s health issues. “We have some professional therapists who are helping us, and we’re just trying to have some hope and do it with dignity, grace, and love,” she said.
Unwanted Attention from Adults
In a November 2025 appearance on the podcast Broad Ideas, Gayheart revealed that some adults have attempted to contact Billie and Georgia on social media regarding Dane’s situation. Uncomfortable with this behavior, she stated, “Adults should never reach out to children. That’s all I know, period.” She emphasized the need to protect their daughters from unsolicited messages.
Family Dynamics
Gayheart also discussed the current living situation of their daughters, who reside with her full-time. Despite being separated for eight years, she has emphasized the importance of showing up for their children. “I mean, it’s heartbreaking. I try to stay optimistic, though, about it all,” she said, reflecting on her efforts to role model resilience during this challenging period.
As Dane continues to navigate this difficult journey, the support from his family remains a vital source of strength. “He is our family. He is your father,” Gayheart reminded their daughters, striving to approach the situation with dignity and grace.
