Miley Cyrus Marks 20th Anniversary of Hannah Montana with Disney+ Special; Emily Osment Addresses Absence
Miley Cyrus recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the beloved Disney Channel series Hannah Montana with a special presentation on Disney+. However, not all cast members were in attendance, prompting Emily Osment to publicly explain her absence.
Osment, who portrayed Miley Stewart’s best friend on the show, did not attend the premiere of the special. She took to social media to share her thoughts on the series and its significance in her life.
“Hannah Montana changed my life,” Osment wrote on Instagram, reflecting on the impact the show had on her career. “It gave me a lifelong respect for this medium of comedy, it taught me discipline, patience, timing, and respect working in an adult space so young.” In her post, she included a video from the set of her CBS sitcom Georgia & Mandy’s First Marriage, alongside her co-star Montana Jordan.
Osment further expressed her appreciation for the show’s enduring fan base, noting, “I’ve met thousands of HM fans over the years, fans that now have children watching this show and fans that literally work beside me every day, like Montana. He’s seen every episode, don’t be fooled.”
She acknowledged the supportive messages from fans, stating, “I feel lucky to have been a part of this once-in-a-generation goliath of a television show. Thank you for letting me into your living rooms, and I hope to still be there many years from now. Would never be where I am without you guys, working on another beautiful show I love so dearly. With all my heart, THANK YOU!”
The Disney+ special features an exclusive in-depth interview with Cyrus, hosted by Alex Cooper of the Call Her Daddy podcast. It also includes never-before-seen archival footage and revitalizes some of the show’s most memorable sets, such as the Stewart family living room and Hannah Montana’s iconic closet.
