Emily Deschanel Stars in NBC’s New Crime Drama Pilot by Dean Georgaris and John Fox
NBC Revives Crime Drama with ‘Bones’ Stars in Dual Leading Roles
NBC is set to make a nostalgic return to crime procedural storytelling by casting David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel as leads in new pilots this season. The partnership echoes their successful collaboration in the 2005 series Bones, which became a hallmark of the genre.
Deschanel stars in an untitled one-hour pilot penned by The Brave creator Dean Georgaris and John Fox, President of Davis Entertainment. Meanwhile, Boreanaz leads the reboot of the classic series The Rockford Files for NBC.
The project involving Deschanel draws inspiration from the work of renowned profiler and author Dr. Ann Burgess, who is also the subject of the forthcoming Hulu docuseries Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer. In this series, Deschanel portrays Professor Georgia Ryan, a groundbreaking psychologist who revolutionizes criminology by shifting focus from the perpetrator to the victim. This innovative approach aims to unearth critical clues often overlooked by traditional investigative methods. Alongside her team, Ryan collaborates with the FBI to tackle some of the most perplexing cases.
Georgaris will executive produce the project alongside John Davis and Fox. Deschanel is also set to take on a producer role, with Burgess and Steven Constantine serving as consulting producers. The pilot is being developed under Universal Television, a branch of Universal Studio Group, which maintains a longstanding relationship with both Georgaris and Davis Entertainment.
Deschanel’s career has been marked by her iconic role as forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan on Bones. She has also recently appeared in independent films including ReEntry and Big Boys, as well as in the Netflix limited series Devil in Ohio. Currently, she is preparing for her next film, Monkey Bread, and is represented by Gersh, Principal Entertainment LA, and Hansen Jacobsen Teller.
