Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift Have a Heartfelt 4-Hour Catch-Up After He Missed Her Engagement News

Ed Sheeran, known for his dynamic performances with a loop pedal, has found himself somewhat out of the loop in his personal life due to his decision to forego smartphone ownership. This choice led to him discovering his longtime friend Taylor Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce weeks after the announcement.
Sheeran learned of the engagement alongside the public when Swift shared the news on Instagram in August. He later revealed in a September interview with Andy Cohen that he had missed out on the information before it became widely known. In a November 28 interview with Access Hollywood, Sheeran recounted that he met with Swift just “a week after” her announcement, stating, “When I saw Taylor, we had like a four-hour catch-up.”
“I’m not self-conscious about my relationship with her,” he added, describing their time together as a discussion about “life stuff.” He emphasized their strong bond, saying, “We’ve been friends for many years. We’re super close, and we see each other when we see each other. And when we see each other, we lock back into where we left off.”
The friendship between these pop icons dates back to 2012 when they collaborated on the track “Everything Has Changed” for Swift’s Red album. Sheeran accompanied the 14-time Grammy winner on her Red Tour, and the two have worked together on various other projects since.
Despite their long-standing relationship, Swift lamented that she forgot to inform Sheeran directly about her engagement due to his absence from digital communication. “He doesn’t have a phone,” she explained in an October appearance with Jimmy Fallon. “This is one thing I love about him … But when I’m going through, saying, ‘Hey, who should we call? Who should we FaceTime?’ I’m going through my texts and being like, ‘Who have I texted within the last like, month of my life?’”
Although Sheeran may have been late to the engagement news, he is assured a place at Swift’s wedding to Kelce, provided he receives an invitation by traditional mail. During a segment on U.K.’s Hits Radio Breakfast Show in October, Swift confirmed that Sheeran would be on the guest list and suggested it might be challenging to prevent him from performing at the reception.
“It’s like, Ed, if there’s a stage, you know that you’ll be on it,” she remarked. “He knows what people want, and he wants to give people what they want.”
