Duran Duran honored the victim of a recent deadly incident during a concert in California.
At a concert on Friday, January 9, at the Thunder Valley Casino in Sacramento, the iconic Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band dedicated their 1993 song “Ordinary World” to 37-year-old Renee Good, who was fatally shot earlier that week during an ICE operation in Minnesota.
The poignant tribute was captured in a fan-recorded video shared on Threads.
“We believe that people in this world have a right to live their lives in peace and lives of freedom and happiness in their own country,” stated Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon. “For all the ordinary people in this world, we wish upon you an ordinary world.”
“Ordinary World” is featured on the band’s self-titled 1993 album, often referred to as the Wedding Album.
Good was shot while sitting in her car on January 7 during the ICE operation. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, along with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, has asserted that the shooting by officer Jonathan Ross was a self-defense action.
Footage from the incident shows Good attempting to flee moments before the shooting, with DHS officials alleging that she tried to “run over” the officer.
Following Good’s death, residents in Minneapolis have come together to mourn and protest the presence of ICE in the city. Mayor Jacob Frey has called for federal agents to exit Minneapolis, stating in a press conference, “This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed.”
