DUI Suspect Arrested Following Pursuit and Standoff in Sun Valley
Standoff at Sun Valley School Ends in Suspect’s Arrest
A man is now in custody following a pursuit that concluded with a crash and a standoff on the roof of Byrd Middle School in Sun Valley early Monday morning.
The suspect, described as being between 30 and 40 years old, was observed on the roof of the school, located on the 8500 block of Arleta Avenue.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the pursuit commenced shortly before 4 a.m. The suspect crashed through the front gate of the school before fleeing onto the campus, situated near Arleta Avenue and Wicks Street.
After a tense standoff, he jumped off the roof and was apprehended. Emergency responders transported him to a hospital for evaluation.
Aerial coverage from NewsChopper4 revealed the suspect handcuffed to a gurney, surrounded by Los Angeles city firefighters and LAPD officers.
In response to the situation, the LAPD requested the closure of the northbound off-ramp of the 170 Freeway at Roscoe Boulevard to ensure public safety.
It remains uncertain whether classes at Byrd Middle School will proceed as scheduled. Inquiries have been made to the Los Angeles Unified School District for clarification.
Furthermore, the LAPD indicated that the suspect was being sought in connection with a possible homicide.
