Ducks Take Early Lead but Fall Short Against Devils
NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on Saturday, breaking a troubling five-game losing streak at home. This victory comes after a strong start to the season, where the Devils initially boasted a record of 9-0-1 at the Prudential Center.
Key contributions from the Devils’ third line bolstered their performance, with Stefan Noesen, Paul Cotter, and Juho Lammikko combining for five points, including two goals and three assists. Notably, Noesen scored his first goal in 22 games.
The game began with Troy Terry netting his 10th goal of the season during a breakaway, giving the Ducks a 1-0 lead in the first period, assisted by Leo Carlsson. However, the Devils quickly responded. Cotter scored at 5:52 of the second period, marking his third consecutive game with a goal, assisted by Lammikko and Noesen, to put New Jersey ahead 2-1.
Later in the second period, Cody Glass extended the lead to 3-1 with support from Ondrej Palat and Colton White. Connor Brown later sealed the victory by scoring on an empty net, bringing his season total to seven goals.
Devils goaltender Jake Allen made 30 saves, achieving his first win since November 28, ending a three-game losing streak. On the other hand, Ducks goalie Lukas Dostal recorded 18 saves, but his team struggled, failing to capitalize on four power-play chances.
The Devils played without their top goal-scorer, Timo Meier, who missed his second consecutive game due to a family health issue. New Jersey head coach Sheldon Keefe commented, “we will give him (Meier) all the time he needs.”
The Ducks are currently on a five-game road trip, having played their third game in five nights.
Upcoming Matchups:
The Ducks will face the New York Rangers on Monday night, while the Devils will host the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.
