Australian EDM artist Dom Dolla has released a remix of a classic track, updating Puretone’s hit “Addicted to Bass.” This new version, titled “Addicted to Bass (Dom Dolla Relapse),” marks his first release in approximately eight months.
In a statement, Dolla, whose real name is Dominic Matheson, shared his deep connection to the original track. “This record was quite literally the soundtrack to my childhood,” he said. Released in 1998, he noted that it was part of his life throughout his youth. Despite its significance, he was surprised to find that many of his peers were unfamiliar with it. As he prepares for his first stadium show in 2025, Dolla reflected on his love for the song while working on remix ideas.

Dolla expressed his hopes for the new version’s reception. “Almost 30 years have gone by and I truly hope this new version finds an audience who connect with it in a fraction of the way that I did as a kid. The addiction is real,” he remarked.
The original “Addicted to Bass,” recorded by Josh Abrahams and Amiel Daemion under the name Puretone, gained renewed popularity in 2002, reaching No. 2 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, just falling short to Aaliyah’s “More Than A Woman.” Initial leaks had landed the track at No. 68 the previous week, preventing it from a possible chart-topping debut.
Both Daemion and Abrahams have embraced Dolla’s rendition. Daemion noted that the remix “finds the deeper, steamier layers in the song. While staying true to the original, particularly in the chorus, Dom has brought his own dirty funk groove to the party. I f****** love it!”
The remix made its debut during a historic performance at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium in December. This memorable event capped off a remarkable year for Dolla, which included a Grammy nomination, numerous ARIA Awards—including the inaugural ARIA Global Impact Award—and sold-out performances at Madison Square Garden. He notably released “No Room For A Saint,” the soundtrack for F1: The Movie.
This year, Dolla is set for an ambitious schedule, with performances lined up at major festivals and headline shows across Asia, Latin America, North America, the United Kingdom, and Europe, an extensive 13-week residency at Hï Ibiza, and an extension of his engagement at LIV Las Vegas.
“Addicted to Bass (Dom Dolla Relapse)” is available for streaming through TMRW Music.
