Documentary Spotlight: Stylist Phillip Bloch and His Work with Hollywood Stars Like Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman
Production Commences on Documentary About Fashion Icon Phillip Bloch
Production has officially begun on Phillip Bloch AF: Always Fashionable, a documentary celebrating the life and contributions of stylist, fashion designer, and author Phillip Bloch. Renowned for his work with A-list celebrities, including Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, and Jennifer Lopez, Bloch has left an indelible mark on the fashion industry.
The documentary is being produced by HenDar Media, an independent production company dedicated to diverse storytelling. Debra A. Wilson-Cary, known for her work on Butch Mystique, is directing the film, which is currently in its early production stages. A press release described the film as featuring "exclusive archival footage, behind-the-scenes glimpses of [Bloch’s] legendary styling sessions, and candid interviews with the celebrities, designers, and industry leaders he has influenced."
Bloch’s illustrious career began as a model, collaborating with iconic designers such as Yves Saint-Laurent and Jean-Paul Gaultier. His journey took him through the vibrant nightlife of Studio 54 in New York before he transitioned to styling in the 1990s.
“The documentary will offer a look at Bloch’s transformation from a young creative and model in New York and Paris to the visionary who redefined red-carpet glamour for Hollywood’s elite to his latest mission: revitalizing American manufacturing through a coalition of ‘smart factories’ designed to modernize the garment industry,” the release notes.
Highlighting Bloch’s multifaceted contributions, the release added, “Phillip is a true Renaissance man who has been at the center of culture for decades, yet his most significant work—his humanitarian efforts and his fight for sustainable, domestic production—is often what the public sees least. This story brings the full scope of his journey.”
At last month’s New York Fashion Week, Bloch made headlines when he transformed his Omniscient Things Collection runway show into “a peaceful act of civil disobedience.” He showcased luxurious vegan faux furs while models held placards protesting the killing of unarmed protesters by ICE agents in Minneapolis.
“I’ve lived my life with few regrets,” Bloch stated. “It feels like starting over… It’s just me, my creativity, and my faith.”
HenDar Media continues to focus on producing independent feature films and documentaries, emphasizing diverse stories and unrepresented voices.
