Dennis Basso Celebrates Iconic ‘It Girls’ with His Latest Collection
Dennis Basso’s New Collection Evokes Nostalgia for Iconic New York Socialites
Designer Dennis Basso unveiled his latest collection in a recent showcase on the Upper East Side, drawing inspiration from the glamorous "It Girls" of New York’s past. Notable socialites such as Pat Buckley, C.Z. Guest, and Nan Kempner served as a backdrop for his vision.
"I wanted this season to actually celebrate New York City and New York City nights," Basso explained. "Those women who stepped out always looked perfectly styled, whether casual or dressed up, especially in the evening."
The collection primarily focuses on evening wear, complemented by designs suitable for special daytime occasions. Reflecting on the past, Basso reminisced about the legendary hotspots 21 and Le Cirque, expressing optimism about a resurgence in sophisticated dressing among women today. "People are out and about," he remarked, "and it seems that in many places, people are dressed up."
While discussing the collection, Basso hinted at potential appearances on the red carpet for the press tour of the upcoming "Devil Wears Prada" sequel. He noted that a stylist has pulled looks for Meryl Streep, who famously wore a Basso coat in the original 2006 film.
The event, held at the Columbus Citizens Foundation, attracted an audience of well-heeled attendees, including media personality Rosanna Scotto. With Basso’s focus on creating elegant, versatile looks inspired by a rich cultural tapestry, the collection serves as a modern homage to the style icons of yesteryear.
