David F. Sandberg to Direct Horror Film ‘A Little Slice of Hell’
Swedish filmmaker David F. Sandberg, renowned for his work on Shazam!, has been signed on to direct the horror film A Little Slice of Hell for Paramount Pictures. The film is based on a short story by John Goodrich, originally published in the inaugural issue of Assemble Artifacts, a magazine from Assemble Media.
While specific plot details remain undisclosed, the narrative revolves around two underpaid supermarket employees who face dire consequences for failing to read the employee manual after encountering a customer from Hell—quite literally.
The screenplay is being crafted by Greg Weidman and Geoff Tock, who have previously contributed to CBS series such as Limitless and Zoo. Their adaptation builds upon a prior draft by Emily V. Gordon, known for her work on The Big Sick.
Production duties are entrusted to Johnny Pariseau, Patrick Gooing, and Molly Milstein of Maximum Effort, alongside Jack Heller and Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen from Assemble, as well as Lotta Losten.
Best known for directing Shazam! and its sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which collectively garnered over $500 million at the global box office, Sandberg’s recent work includes an adaptation of the PlayStation game Until Dawn, released by Screen Gems in April.
Before his ventures into the superhero genre, Sandberg directed Annabelle: Creation, a part of The Conjuring Universe, which amassed over $306 million worldwide. His early career began in Sweden, where he garnered attention for his short horror films, including the viral sensation Lights Out, which he later adapted into a feature film in 2016 that grossed over $149 million globally. Sandberg is represented by CAA, Gotham Group, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Weidman and Tock are represented by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and CAA, while Gordon is represented by UTA, Mosaic, and Scheck Rose Dapello.
