- David Beckham has made his first public appearance since his son Brooklyn Beckham criticized his parents on Instagram on January 19.
- The former soccer star sidestepped questions regarding Brooklyn’s statements during the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
- In the posts, Brooklyn accused his father David and mother Victoria Beckham of trying to undermine his relationship with wife Nicola Peltz Beckham and spreading “countless lies” amid ongoing family tensions.
David Beckham appeared publicly for the first time following a series of Instagram posts by his son, Brooklyn, who accused him and Victoria of attempting to sabotage his marriage to Nicola. Brooklyn’s grievances surfaced on January 19, prompting widespread media attention.
On January 20, David, 50, engaged with attendees at the World Economic Forum’s 56th Annual Meeting in Davos. He posed for photos and participated in discussions as part of this year’s theme, “A Spirit of Dialogue.
During the forum, David refrained from commenting on his relationship with Brooklyn, 26. When approached by a Sky News reporter who inquired about Brooklyn’s statements, David smiled but did not provide a response.
In footage from the event, a reporter asked, “David, do you have a message for Brooklyn this morning?” followed by, “David, are you disappointed family business is being aired in public?”

This year’s forum gathered “world leaders from government, business, civil society, and academia” to discuss global issues and set priorities, according to the official website.
David’s public appearance coincided with Brooklyn’s outcry on social media, where he expressed feelings of estrangement from both his family and wife, Nicola Peltz, 31. This comes after months of speculation regarding potential familial rifts.

Brooklyn later articulated feelings of long-standing silence in the face of public scrutiny. “I have been silent for years and have made every attempt to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about some of the lies that have been printed,” he stated. He further claimed, “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled; I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”

Brooklyn recounted instances he believes exemplify his family’s attempts to undermine him and Nicola, especially during significant events like their 2022 wedding and David’s 50th birthday celebration.
The conflict has heightened tension within the Beckham family, with recent claims of social media blocks and conspicuous absences from family gatherings. Brooklyn described attending such events as critical to his family, asserting that “Brand Beckham comes first. Family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo.”

In his posts, Brooklyn alleged that Victoria “hijacked” his wedding dance with Nicola, asserting that the dance had been meticulously planned. “My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song,” Brooklyn explained, stating that the moment turned awkward as Victoria danced with him in front of their wedding guests.

Brooklyn expressed feeling “uncomfortable” and “humiliated” by the experience, indicating a desire to renew vows to create positive memories associated with that day.

A source close to the situation stated that Brooklyn and Nicola never intended for their personal life to be public. They wished to lead a quiet life, but after enduring inaccuracies, Brooklyn felt compelled to respond.
In a previous statement, an insider revealed that Brooklyn’s relationship with his parents was “definitely not beyond repair,” indicating ongoing love and support from David and Victoria despite recent tensions.
As the estrangement continues, sources suggest David and Victoria have expressed a desire to mend the relationship, urging Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk.
In a statement to PEOPLE, a representative for David and Victoria did not comment on the January 19 developments.
