Dachshunds Became the Surprising Fashion Trend Everyone Loved in 2025
Dachshund Craze Takes Retail by Storm
Recent observations reveal a significant uptick in dachshund-themed merchandise, driven in part by viral social media content. An Instagram reel has captured attention with its humorous take on the apparent prevalence of dachshund-themed items at Anthropologie. "I’m convinced Anthropologie’s buyer has a dachshund. And for that I’m thankful," remarked one user, echoing sentiments from over 500 similarly intrigued commenters.
Dachshunds, affectionately known as “doxies” or “weiner dogs,” have long held a special place in art and culture. Renowned artists like Picasso and David Hockney have immortalized these beloved dogs in their works. However, the current surge in dachshund-themed fashion and decor reflects a growing trend that seems to have peaked in 2025, coinciding with a notable increase in their popularity as pets, according to American Kennel Club rankings.
Lindsay Silberman, founder of Hotel Lobby Candle and owner of a dachshund named Pierre, noted that she has noticed an increase in dachshund-inspired products since acquiring her pet. "At first, I thought it was just my perception, but there really wasn’t a lot available back in 2021," she shared.
The current trend may also be traced back to Thom Browne’s “Hector” bag, introduced in 2016. This collectible has inspired a broader range of dachshund-themed accessories, including sweaters, hair clips, and other fashion items. Celebrities and designer labels, such as Gucci and Susan Alexandra, have also jumped on the bandwagon. Alexandra’s “Weeny Bag” commands a retail price of $368, highlighting the appeal and marketability of dachshund-themed items.
In stores like Anthropologie, the enthusiasm for dachshund merchandise is palpable. Alex Marino, a visual merchandising manager at Anthropologie in Glendale, California, noted significant customer interest. "I’ve had multiple people come up to me asking for dachshund-themed items. I always laugh, like, you have asked the right person," she remarked, pointing out that doxies consistently outsell other dog-themed merchandise.
Taylor Hickman, Maeve stores buyer at Anthropologie, confirmed that items like the Dachshund Icon Juice Glass remain popular. "It seems the public’s fascination with these dogs has definitely influenced merchandising trends," she noted.
As the dachshund continues to capture the hearts of consumers, it appears that this trend is not just a fleeting moment but rather a growing cultural phenomenon. The unique characteristics of these canines—long bodies and playful temperaments—make them particularly suited for design purposes, as expressed by designer Susan Korn. "They’re long, and there’s a lot you can do with all that space," she explained.
The enduring popularity of dachshunds reflects not only a love for the breed but also a powerful marketing trend that extends well beyond one retailer or designer. The phenomenon shows no signs of waning, with even more dachshund-inspired products on the horizon.
