Cutter Gauthier Shines with Two Goals in Ducks’ Shootout Win Against Flames
Ducks Secure Eighth Consecutive Home Win Against Flames
In a thrilling matchup on Sunday, the Anaheim Ducks triumphed over the Calgary Flames with a score of 3-2, thanks to Cutter Gauthier’s two goals in regulation and successful shootout contributions from Leo Carlsson and Mason McTavish.
Goalkeeper Lukas Dostal demonstrated outstanding performance, making 32 saves and clinching victory by denying Matvei Gridin during the final shot of the shootout. This win marks the Ducks’ eighth straight victory on home ice and elevates their record to 14-3 in games that extend into overtime.
McTavish netted the decisive goal in the shootout by sliding the puck through Calgary goalie Devin Cooley’s legs. The Flames’ goals in regulation came from Joel Farabee and Yegor Sharangovich, with Cooley registering 34 saves throughout the contest.
Gauthier’s game-tying goal occurred with 9:19 left in the third period when he launched a shot from the right circle that found its way past Cooley’s left skate. This goal marked Gauthier’s team-leading 28th of the season, with assists credited to Beckett Sennecke and Jackson LaCombe.
The Ducks initially equalized at 1-1 in the second period, following an unusual shot from Gauthier who managed to flick the puck off the back of Cooley’s left shoulder after retrieving his own rebound. However, later in the period, Calgary regained the lead with a power-play goal by Sharangovich, assisted by Kevin Bahl.
The Flames took an early lead at 9:41 of the first period, where Farabee completed a backhand tip-in from close range, assisted by Ryan Lomberg’s precise setup from the left circle.
Ducks coach Joel Quenneville, who recently joined the ranks of the NHL’s elite with his 1,000th career win, was honored during a pregame ceremony.
Looking ahead, the Ducks are set to face the Colorado Avalanche at Honda Center on Tuesday night.
