Customers in North San Diego and Orange County Now Have Power Back After Outage
Thousands of residents across North County experienced power outages for just over an hour on Thursday evening, affecting areas from Carlsbad to Encinitas and eastward to Escondido. According to San Diego Gas & Electricity (SDG&E), the disruptions began at 7:41 p.m., leaving many in darkness until power was restored around 8:56 p.m.
The cause of the outage remains under investigation by SDG&E. Affected coastal communities included Carlsbad, Encinitas, La Costa, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, and Olivenhain. Additionally, parts of Rancho Santa Fe and the San Elijo Lagoon, along with areas in San Pasqual, Rancho Penasquitos, Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, Del Dios, and Lake Hodges, were also impacted.
The outages extended into southern Orange County, impacting customers in Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, and the San Juan Capistrano region.
In a statement following the restoration of power, SDG&E Media Relations Manager Anthony Wagner addressed the situation. He said, “Power has been fully restored to customers affected by a widespread outage impacting multiple communities in North San Diego County and Orange County this evening. We understand how disruptive outages can be and are working to investigate the cause. The safety of our customers, employees, and communities remains our top priority.”
