Cruise Ship Tragedy: Woman Identified After Falling Near Catalina Island
Investigation Underway After Passenger Falls to Death on Carnival Cruise Ship
Authorities are investigating the tragic death of a young woman who fell from a balcony aboard the Carnival Firenze. The incident occurred early Monday morning near Catalina Island, where the ship was on a round-trip voyage from Long Beach.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has identified the victim as Briana Miller, a 24-year-old passenger who was reportedly traveling with family at the time of the accident. The circumstances surrounding her fall remain unclear.
The FBI is currently leading the inquiry into this incident. While the fall has been confirmed, details regarding whether it was accidental or involved foul play have not yet been disclosed.
In a statement, a Carnival spokesperson expressed condolences, saying, "Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one."
The Carnival Firenze, a 1,000-foot vessel, was following a scheduled itinerary that included stops in Ensenada, Mexico, and Catalina Island. Further findings from the Medical Examiner are anticipated as the federal investigation continues.
