Crown Fire Covers 30 Acres in Northern LA County
Brush Fire Erupts in Acton, North of Los Angeles
A brush fire has ignited in the northern Los Angeles County community of Acton, with the wind-driven Crown Fire estimated to span approximately 30 acres. The blaze was reported around 11:30 a.m. when thick smoke began billowing from a canyon.
Firefighting efforts have included at least one water-dropping aircraft, which is deploying red fire retardant to create a barrier between the flames and a nearby cluster of buildings. Fortunately, no structures are currently under threat.
The cause of the fire remains unclear at this time.
In a broader context, California has experienced about 500 wildland fires this year, which have burned a total of 2,000 acres as of March. This is a notable decrease compared to the same period last year, which saw 600 fires consuming 59,170 acres, according to Cal Fire. The state’s five-year average indicates 734 fires and 13,700 acres burned through March.
