LOS ANGELES – A tragic crash on the 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights has resulted in one fatality and sent up to ten individuals to the hospital following a fiery collision early Sunday morning.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the incident, which occurred in the southbound lanes near Fourth Street shortly after 5 a.m. on December 28. Emergency services reported that the collision involved nine vehicles, leaving serious damage in its wake.
The impact of the crash caused a vehicle to catch fire, prompting a significant response from firefighters and first responders. A total of 15 people were assessed at the scene, with ten transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to officials.
The freeway was closed for several hours as crews managed the scene and conducted their investigation. It has since reopened.
As of Sunday afternoon, authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash, and the identity of the deceased has not been released. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to gather more information.
