CNN’s New Series Explores the FBI, Power Struggles, and Paranoia
CNN Original Series is set to unveil a new program, Standoff: The FBI, Power and Paranoia, which will explore the complex dynamics between FBI directors and the U.S. presidents they serve. The series is scheduled to premiere next month.
The premiere will feature two episodes at 9 p.m. ET/PT on March 22, with the concluding two episodes airing the following Sunday, March 29. Following each broadcast, episodes will be available for streaming the next day.
Among the notable figures featured in the series is James Comey, who will discuss his contentious interactions with Donald Trump during his first term. The episodes will also delve into J. Edgar Hoover’s relationship with Richard Nixon, along with the dynamic between Bill Clinton and Louis Freeh. Additionally, the collaboration between George W. Bush and Robert Mueller in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks will be examined.
Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent for CNN Originals and creative development at CNN Worldwide, expressed that this series provides essential context for understanding how American institutions are tested under pressure. “By examining moments when the FBI’s independence was tested at the highest levels of government, this series gives viewers vital context for understanding how American institutions function under pressure, and why those moments continue to resonate today,” she stated.
