Clippers Lose to Kings Following Kawhi Leonard’s Injury
In a decisive matchup on Saturday night, the Sacramento Kings secured a 118-109 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, propelled by a standout performance from DeMar DeRozan, who scored 27 points. Russell Westbrook contributed significantly with a triple-double, recording 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists, marking the 209th triple-double of his career.
Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 31 points before an injury put him on the sidelines. His sprained left ankle occurred with 9:27 left in the fourth quarter while he was guarding DeRozan. Leonard landed awkwardly and, although he briefly got up, he visibly limped to the bench and subsequently headed to the locker room. No update was provided on the severity of his injury, ending the Clippers’ four-game winning streak.
Alongside DeRozan, the Kings benefited from strong performances by Precious Achiuwa, who added 25 points and 13 rebounds, and Maxime Raynaud, who contributed 23 points. Daeqwon Plowden also made an impact, scoring 15 points, aiding Sacramento’s effort in winning three of their last four games.
The game remained competitive early on, with the teams deadlocked at 39 with just over seven minutes left in the second quarter. However, Sacramento pulled ahead, leading 68-54 at halftime. The Kings extended their lead to a 20-point advantage, 90-70, on a three-pointer from Plowden late in the third quarter.
Despite losing Leonard, the Clippers rallied in the fourth quarter, narrowing the gap to 103-100 with a basket from Bennedict Mathurin. Ultimately, Sacramento responded by outscoring Los Angeles 15-9 down the stretch to secure their victory.
